(Julie’s POV)

Francheska: So anong plano mo?

Julie: Ewan ko Maq…

Francheska: Why did you send him that kind of message ba kasi?

Julie: It’s not like I have a choice. I mean what am I suppose to do back then?

Francheska: You could’ve told him the truth

Julie: No Maq, that would have hurted him more

Frnacheska: Maybe? And then he could’ve accepted it at hindi ka nahihirapan ngayon

Julie: You know what, I gotta go. I need to… do something pa?

Francheska: Do something nga ba or you just don’t know how to respond to my statement?

Julie: Bye Maq. I’ll just call again na lang.

I immediately hanged up. Maybe she’s right. Maybe I shouldn’t have done that. I shouldn’t have lied to Moe. Pero nagawa ko na eh, ano pang gagawin ko?

I was in deep thought thinkinh of Moe and what could have been when…

Julie: Hello?

Caller: Who’s this?

Julie: What do you mean who’s this? You called me remember?

Caller: So? You answered anyway so who’s this?

Julie: If you wanna fool around, try and leave me out of it okay?

I hanged up the phone feeling really annoyed at the guy on the other line… and then….

Julie: What do you want!?

Caller: Sorry, didn’t know you were’nt in the mood for a little game. It’s Moe by the way..

Oh crap! Oo nga pala he got my number kanina!

Julie: Oh my God Moe I’m so sorry!

Moe: It’s alright. So… mind telling me why your pissed off?

Julie: Ahm, it’s actually nothing. Just had an annoying conversation with my besfriend when you called. Bad timing I guess?

Moe: Too bad. haha. Anyway have a goodnight!

Julie: Wait! Did you call just to say that? I mean, just…. that?

Moe: Well honestly no. I’ve rehearsed what I’m suppose to say kaso when you answered it, parng nawala lahat?

Julie: Haha, kaya mo yan! What is it?

Moe: May ano kasi.. ano, later at 8. Sa may ano…

Julie: Moe, if you’re gonna talk that way I’m gonna hang up na?

Moe: No! no! Ano, later at 8 I’m invited to a party kasi sa may eastwood and I was wondering if you can come with me?

I wanted to immediately respond but I don’t wanna burst out laughing because he just said that without breathing

Moe: Julie? Still there? You know a simple “No” would do? Or you can just hang up on me?

Julie: And why would I do that? Sure, I’ll come with you.

Moe: Really? Why?

Julie: What do you mean why? You asked me right?

Moe: Yeah! Never mind what I just said. Sorry, just a little shocked over here.

Julie: Alright, so? Should I meet you there?

Moe: Can I pick you up instead?

Julie: okay. I’ll text you my address. Bye.

Moe: Bye!

Woah! What did I do? He asked me out and I said yes? It’s just a party right? Not a date? Haay! Bahala na Julie!

(ELMO’s POV)

Woah! She’s really something!

Saab: Moe, Lauren’s asking if you already have a date for Papa’s ceremony tonight? Are you guys going together daw ba?

Moe: Definitely not. I already have a date.

Saab: Really? Who?

Moe: You’ll meet her tonight.

I went up the stairs to look for what I’m gonna wear and I saw a blue long sleeves polo on my bed

Pia: Wear that. It’ll look good on you.

Moe: Thanks Mom

Then I gave her a smile.

Pia: Heard you’re gonna bring someone at the event. Someone special?

Moe: Maybe? I actually just met her at school earlier.

Pia: Really? Then don’t you think that a tribute for somebody isn’t actually the best thing for a first date?

Moe: I know Ma, pero it’s a tribute for Pop. I just want her to be there I guess?

Pia: Then I guess she’s really special. Even if you’ve known her for only a day. I’m looking forward in meeting her tonight.

Moe: Thanks Ma

I gave my mom a hug. She is right, Julie feels special for someone who I just met. I just want her to be at this event. To be with me.

The Unexpected - Chapter 1

(Elmo’s POV)

Its been two weeks since class started. So far everything’s been fine. But I’m not sure if I’m really fine.

I was staring at my phone when my brother spoke…..

Frank: Moe, what’s that?

Moe: It’s nothing bro…

Saab: Let me guess, it’s “THE MESSAGE” again isn’t it?

I didn’t respond to what my sister just said…

Maxx: It is? Come on Moe! It’s been like what? Two months? Have you ever heard of moving on?

I may be too sensitive but I was really annoyed…..

Moe: Shut up Maxx!

Maxx: And when did started raising your voice at me?

I paused for a couple of seconds to control my temper…

Moe: I’m sorry alright? Just please shut up. I’m not in the mood for teasing

Maxx: Your always not in the mood when it comes to that topic

Moe: Alam mo naman pala eh? So will you stop rubbing it in?

Pia: Stop it na, both of you. Moe, kumain ka na. You’ll be late for school

I started fixing myself and gathering my stuff on the table

Moe: Turns out I’m not so hungry anymore. Bye Mom.

I simply said then walked out from the rest of the family. I got in my car then drove away. When I got to school, I stayed at the garden near my building for my first class. I still have a vacant hour but since it’s Monday, I knew everyone will be home so I told my Mom that I have a class, just to give myself a break from the teasing.

Julie: excuse me?

Moe: Yes?

When I looked up, I was fascinated with what I saw so I suddenly smiled

Moe: Kara?

I said with a huge grin on my face not realizing that I might be making a mistake

Julie: Huh? Kara?

Moe: ahmmmm, I’m sorry I thought you were somebody else…

Julie: Obviously, haha

I just smiled at her but honestly? I was disappointed and awfully offended by that small giggle she let out

Moe: Ahm, need anything?

Julie: Ah yeah! I’m a transferee student. I was wondering if you could tell me where I could find these rooms (handing over her assesment papers). Class doesn’t start for another half an hour so I think I still have time to roam around the school grounds….

I took a glimpse at her papers and…

Moe: HRIM II block B?

Julie: I guess?

Moe: You’re in luck, I belong to the same class. Take a seat. Sabay na lang tayong pumunta sa classes natin para di ka mapagod.

Julie: Thanks! I’m Julie Anne San Jose by the way…

She laid out her hand so I took it

Moe: Elmo Moses Magalona

Julie: Elmo? As in the muppet?

Moe: Yeah! Yeah!

I said with sarcasm…

Moe: But don’t you think I look a lot better than that red haired muppet?

She was laughing at me. Alam ko na kakakilala pa lang namin pero ang gaan niya kasi sa pakiramdam. I feel like I’m at ease with her. Her smile’s filled with joy, ang jolly ng eyes niya, at ang sarap sa pakiramdam ng tawa niya. She made me forget about what I was thinking about earlier.

Julie: I’m not sure, I’m a cookie monster fan kasi eh, hahaha

Moe: haha, tandaan mo to, someday you’ll prefer this Elmo over that blue monster

Julie: We’ll see

We spent our time talking about random stuff like why are dogs called dogs, why do flowers smell so good, why people use perfumes and the kind….

Julie: Hey, looks like we got 10 minutes to go..

Moe: Really? I took my phone out and checked the time.

Moe: oh yeah.. come on let’s go!

 I took her hand and I don’t know why. I didn’t feel a single protest from her. And finally we arrived.

Lexi: looks like you’ve got yourself to move on huh?

Moe: What?

I took a glimpse at what she’s looking at and realized I was still holding Julie’s hand. I let her go…

Moe: ahh no, transferee student siya, ang dami kasing tao sa hall kaya I took her hand para she won’t get mobbed by the rushing crowd

Lexi: Okay, sabi mo eh, Hi! I’m Lexi Fernandez!

Shifting her attention to Julie

Julie: Julie Anne San Jose. So I guess you guys are blockmates?

Lexi: Oh no! I’m his girlfriend!

Lex clinged her arm at mine so I gave her a little push. I saw this weird expression on Julie’s face which made me feel a little down so I pushed Lex a little harder.

Lexi: Fine! Fine! I was kidding! I’m his cousin. Makatulak ka naman diyan Moe…

Julie: haha, nice to meet you Lexi

Ethan: Guys! Papunta na daw si prof! Be settled now.

Lexi: sige ha?

Julie: sure!

Moe: you can sit there (pointing at an empty chair). It’s the closest to mine para if you need anything. I’d actually want you to be closer kaso no vacant chair na mas malapit eh.

Julie: No, it’s okay. Thanks a lot Elmo.

Moe: Moe. Please just call me Moe

Julie: alright Moe. Let’s get settled.

I sat down on my own seat but I can’t stop taking glimpses at her. Checking if she’s doing fine

Lexi: Moe! Bakit puro ka tingin kay Julie?

Moe: nothing. I was just checking kung okay siya.

Lexi: Yeah right! Moe, obvious naman eh, she looks so much like….

Moe: I know and I don’t care. I can see she’s not like her a single bit.

Lexi: If you say so…

Lex suddenly stood up…

Moe: Where are you going?

Lexi: I’m gonna make you smile

I stared at her wondering what she’s gonna do then I saw her talk to Julie

Lexi: Hey Julie!

Julie: Hey! Bakit?

Lexi: Palit tayo ng seat?

Julie: Huh? Why?

Lexi: Para kasing di ka comfortable dito. Atleast dun Moe’s next to you di ba?

Julie: Okay lang sayo?

Lexi: I’m offering it, aren’t I?

Lexi has always been a great cousin to me. She’s willing to do anything just to make me smile.

The class went great. All of my classes went great. My entire day pretty much went great. Julie was seating beside me the entire day and she’s my partner in almost all activities so I was really happy.

Moe: So that’s the last of it!

Julie: Finally! haha. It was a fun day though…

Moe: I agree. So uuwi ka na ba?

Julie: I guess so. Why?

Moe: Invite sana kita for early dinner eh…

Julie: Maybe next time Moe. I need to be home early kasi eh. Ayaw mo pa bang umuwi?

Moe: I don’t know eh. Can I atleast take you home?

Julie: Wag na lang.

Moe: Why? Don’t worry I have a car…

Julie: No! Haha. That’s not it! Obvious namang rich kid ka eh, sa pagsasalita pa lang.

Moe: what then? Afraid of me?

Julie: No! ofcourse not! Ano ba namang conclusions yan. May sundo po kasi ako Mr. Magalona at in this case, andito na siya kaya goodbye, and have a safe night. I’ll see you tomorrow.

I looked at the car parked right in front of us, and honestly, it’s not just some car I usually see around, not even in places like Shang, Eastwood, and Manila Hotel

Moe: Makapagsabi ng rich kid eh parang you’re a richer kid than all of us here

Julie: Yeah whatever Mr. Magalona!

I just smiled at her as she walked towards the car. A guy in orange barong? Opened the car door for her then I remembered something…

Moe: Julie, wait lang!

Julie: Hmmm?

I took my phone out of my pocket…

Moe: Yung ano… Yung number mo?

Handing my phone to her… She took it and suddenly froze. I took a glimpse at it and I saw what it was so I grabbed it

Moe: Sorry… Ahmmm, ano yun, galing sa ex ko. Here…

I handed her back the phone and as she was typing her number in, she spoke…

Julie: Is she Kara?

Moe: Huh? Ahm Yeah!

She handed me back my phone

Moe: Thanks! I’ll give you a ring

Julie: Sure, Bye Moe!

Moe: Bye Julie!

She finally entered and in a few seconds, the car drove away. I went to  the parking lot, took my car then drove away too….

(Julie’s POV)

As I enetered my car, I immediately instructed my driver…

Julie: Kuya, go hide the car somewhere near the parking lot please

Driver: Yes Ma’am…

It’s been about 7 minutes since I got there when I finally saw him get in his car. As I saw the blue car driving away I dialed the number…

Calling Francheska Farr…….

Francheska: Hello?

Julie: Maq….

Francheska: Julie? What’s up?

Julie: I finally got the chance to call him Mr. Margalona…

Francheska: Really? I’m so happy for you

Julie: I saw it…

Francheska: The what?

Julie: the message, he’s keeping it Maq….

Francheska: What!?
